I started writing this song sometime in 2019. It was part of the original batch of LtB songs and was very much inspired by my deep dive into Appendix N. It went hand in hand with The Tower of the Elephant and while that song was released on Random Encounters, for some reason this one sat unfinished. Now I know the time was not right.

Fast forward a few years later and Stefan Surratt contacts me about possibly making some music for his Elfland: Beyond the Fields We Know kickstarter campaign. This killer project was the boost I needed to finish writing and recording this song which is now one of my favorites. I hope you like it and thanks for backing this excellent Kickstarter.

On their knees the men of Erl went to supplicate their king
And said for seven hundred years we have been ruled by your kin
But now we yearn for something more to be ruled by a fey lord
Said the king “let this be done” so he sent for his own son
The command from his lord father
To wed The King of Elfland's Daughter
He rode far and further still until he reached the twilight fields
Where he saw the maiden fey crowned by ice and light of day
Unbeknown to her own father
He wooed The King of Elfland's Daughter
She slipped away to the land of bone and clay
Where the seasons pass and stars are mild
They wed in love and had a child that way
From a tower far away where her father did survey
And sang a rune so black and cold to bring her back to his control
To the arms of her lord father

Absolute multimedia triumph. The music alone is more than worth the price, with plenty of variety to set the mood for different scenes. The PDF is over 20 pages crammed with artwork and massive amounts of tables and lore.
