Hex Volume 1

by Loot the Body

/
1.
A thousand years ago a wizard had his hour The warlords of the north surrendered to his power And all across the land he let a madness take control Wicked and fantastic apparitions took men’s souls As he took the throne Keraptis made one more decree Every third child you must render unto me At these words the people sprang like beasts out of a cage All as one they marched and took up arms against the mage Seeing the battle had been lost Keraptis vanished in the air But rumors say he hides and schemes away where none will dare A maze where fire runs like water flowing from a fountain The haunted deadly peak they call the white plume mountain
2.
Deep within the jungle’s heart There’s a city that remains And those who make it back alive Will never be the same We scaled the mountain with no crown Then into caverns underground When we emerged we were confronted by such things that we could not believe In the sacrificial pool Consequences dire For those who somehow make it through There’s the waterfall of fire We heard the call of the aboleth Speak with a voice from inside our head And as he summoned there were those within our party who could not resist There’s something alive Something alive in the ruins There’s something alive Something alive and it calls Voices whisper from the trees Like insectes in a hive And creepers yellow with disease Are eating us alive We saw the snakemen’s gleaming eyes Hunger for human sacrifice Tormenting all the unbelievers on the altar of the serpent god There’s something alive Something alive in the ruins There’s something alive Something alive and it calls
3.
Castle Amber 04:17
As we all traveled to Gilantri We were surrounded by the mist And one by one we seemed to fall into A slumber we could not resist We awoke in Castle Amber where opulence and pageantry Are just a veil that hides a mystery Everywhere demented creatures and assorted coterie Punish each other for their revelry High above the indoor forest Seven domes of glass While below the lotus flowers Watching as you pass And someone’s scratching underground When you’re inside Castle Amber mingle with nobility They like their magic like their coffee Everything’s a little deadly everywhere there’s lunacy But they try to keep it in the family In the throne room wait the royal Skeletal remains Rusty armor, rotting velvet Frozen all in place Cut off my head the green man says In the card room sits Camilla Shuffling her deck King of wands, knight of swords Ever present death For all of those who would be free Everywhere inside the castle pain and treasure lie in wait And there’s no telling which you’ll see Far beyond the hidden gate you’ll find the means of your escape If you can only find the keys
4.
Step into the tunnel past the jackal headed man Make it to the archway if you can Into the mouth of the devil you lost another friend Forsaken in a prison without end So you got this far without a hitch And you're thinking that you’ll go home rich Just you wait until the dem lich has his say You’re in the Tomb of Horrors Here dwells Acererak Death waits at every corner And there’s no turning back From the hall of spheres to the statue with three arms Everything was put here to do you harm All who trespass in the treasure room And desecrate the ancient tomb Will lose their soul and seal their doom away You’re in the Tomb of Horrors Here dwells Acererak Death waits at every corner There’s no turning back Those who feel they’re brave enough to try And fools who take his threats as lies Come to see the truth in his ruby eyes much too late You’re in the Tomb of Horrors Here dwells Acererak Death waits at every corner There’s no turning back
5.
Ravenloft 05:08
6.
The realm of mankind is narrow With chaos always pressing in If not for the work of a rugged few The darkness would surely win In the night a beacon shines Keeping villainy at bay A place where the weary can rest their head And a guiding light for all the brave There’s a Keep on the Borderlands There’s a Keep on the Borderlands When adventure calls the bold And travelers flee bad weather There’s a place where they converge To cast their lots together There’s a Keep on the Borderlands There’s a Keep on the Borderlands That's where the line is drawn There’s a Keep on the Borderlands There’s a Keep on the Borderlands

about

Hex Volume 1 is a three-pronged reference to old-school hex maps, warlock-ian curses, and the number of tracks contained within. Each song lurking herein is directly inspired by popular D&D storylines. The opener and lead single, “WHITE PLUME MOUNTAIN,” recounts the deeds of an evil wizard over metal riffage and proggy synths. The foreboding “DWELLERS OF THE FORBIDDEN CITY” takes listeners on a fuzz-laden journey into the sanctuary of snake worshippers, while “CASTLE AMBER” tells the trippy story of haunted nobles hiding a dark secret. “TOMB OF HORRORS” is a cautionary tale that pits a demi-lich against grave robbers, and goth rocker “RAVENLOFT”is told from the perspective of Strahd Von Zarovich. the most famous vampire in D&D lore. Lastly, the Americana-tinged “THE KEEP ON THE BORDERLANDS” closes out the collection with an ode to a remote beacon of civilization. As a whole, Hex Volume 1 is an affirmation of Loot The Body’s core aesthetic and objective. In other words, it serves as the soundtrack to adventure.
