Grail Spell 03:08
There’s a grave up on the island Where the mist comes down And the bodies rise Where a poison tree reaches for nothing Trading blood for light In these darkened times Can you hear the tolling of the chapel bells Could it be the lifting of the wicked Grail Spell They say a nameless has been chosen Better watch yourself If you be the one For in these days there is no respite Die and live again Until the deed is done Can you hear the tolling of the chapel bells Could it be the lifting of the wicked Grail Spell There’s no breeze on the western hill And water on the shore is deadly still But something stirs for good and ill The clock of the realm begins to spin Beware the once and future king The curse of the grave is on your skin Can you hear the tolling of the chapel bells Can you feel the lifting of the wicked Grail Spell Can you hear the tolling of the chapel bells Can you feel the lifting of the wicked Grail Spell

The Lost Bay 03:55
In the summer of 93 It was only my friends and me Every day searching on the beach For a future beyond our reach Hear the dogs howling in the night And other things out to give a fright But we don’t mind what we don’t know And we go where we want to go So where can we meet Is there a place to escape the heat I don’t wanna go to school no more Don’t wanna fight your invisible war Bodies falling like hail in spring Should I pretend I don’t see a thing So where can we go, is there a place where we can roll Here in the Lost Bay We’re not the blessed, we’re just the rest In the Lost Bay But how many days do we have left I’m a freak but I’m not a fraud And I won’t bow to the Faceless God I’m your friend and I’m not afraid We’ll make the best of the mess they made So what have you found should we go to the underground Here in the Lost Bay How many days do we have left till the last day Children behave is what they say in the Lost Bay We’re not depressed, we’re just obsessed In the Lost Bay So how many days do we have left

Looking for you in the kitchen with the cat Hungry for sparrows, scaring all the rats Up through the door, glitter on the steps Another sinking nightmare in the hall of beds Where did you go this time? Where did you go how did you get by? Where did you go? I thought I heard you snoring through the door Said the man below the beast don't come back no more Followed a buzz to the humid smell of rot Humored the tadpoles but it was all for naught Where did you go this time? Where did you go how did you get by? Where did you go? Where did you go? I heard a rumor About the skyway But I’m not certain if you went that way There’s a party at charlie’s tomorrow Will I find you there drowning your sorrows I flipped the power on the goat bones and the lake Rain burned my eyes the breaker wouldn't break Spoke to the pilgrims waiting to be damned And to the chosen ones in the promised land But they didn’t know Are they lying? Where did you go Is everything fine? Where did you go? Where did you go this time? Where did you go, how did you get by?

On the road we go To the god in pieces To the god in pieces Down on the coast On the road we go To the god in pieces To the god in pieces Down on the coast There’s something we must know And so we go On the road we go To the god in pieces To the god in pieces Down on the coast There’s something we must know And so we go Give to his hand Gaze upon the eye that ever weeps Take from his hand Fall down on your knees and say a prayer to the one Who never sleeps On the road we go To the god in pieces To the god in pieces Down on the coast There’s something we must know And so we go

At the bottom of the stairs You will find a friendly doorman Looks like a cross between a demon and a bat But he’s easy going Take your coat off at the door Head towards the well stocked bar A bartender named Simon knows your name He’s a little freak but he always over-pours Some days are easy, some days are hard Let’s get a drink at the satanic temple Good conversation cash check or card Let’s get a drink at the satanic temple In the lounge the vibe is chill And the vampires all seem bored Don't be fooled if they say you're not their type We’re all universal donors Come raise a glass with the dearly departed Let’s get a drink at the satanic temple Bring your ID, you will get carded Let’s get a drink at the satanic temple It's no different than any local dive So don't be afraid of the regulars inside But be warned, you’re bound to die inside the ooze pit If they think you’re of a mind to gentrify it Some days are easy, some days are hard Let’s get a drink at the satanic temple Good conversation cash check or card Let’s get a drink at the satanic temple

Tiptoe gently the flower bed Careful where you place your step There's no telling what the poppies think of you Roses whispering their secrets Bodies scattered on the lawn Just before you realize what you must do Down from up above The mist descends upon you The world you’ve known Is slowly fading from view Vines entwined around your ankles Pull you down into the mulch Dragging you into a bliss you never knew Down from up above The mist descends upon you The world you’ve known Is slowly bringing you Down on the floor You look up at the doors Everyone knows how to escape But they won't tell Now close your eyes You’re here to fertilize This is Ricksanthemum Garden It’s a special kind of hell Down from up above The mist descends upon you The world you’ve known Is slowly fading from view From up above The mist descends upon you The world you’ve known Is slowly fading from view

A smell is rising from below the tavern Somewhere beneath a golden giant is lurking The town hall clock has been silent for a while And misery is seeping into our dreams Did you know there’s a tunnel under Hagberry Road? Did you know there’s a tunnel if you want to go? No one knows exactly where But I’m certain that its there The ancient roots are rotting from the bottom up Infesting sprites much older than the town Twice a year, when day and night are equal a copy is made And brought into the chamber of unlived lives Did you know there’s a tunnel under Hagberry Road? Did you know there’s a tunnel if you want to go? No one knows exactly where But I’m certain that its there Where did Francis Hawthorn go? His absence left traces too subtle to notice Like a splinter in our hearts The sisters of Lilac Are plotting against us Did you know there’s a tunnel under Hagberry Road? Did you know there’s a tunnel if you want to go? Did you know there’s a tunnel under Hagberry Road? Did you know there’s a tunnel if you want to go? No one knows exactly where But I’m certain that its there

When you die as you know you must You won't waste underneath the dust Though your days are done You may carry on In the labyrinth of skulls In the end there’s no escape But in death there’s a part to play Holding up the walls All along the halls Of the labyrinth of skulls I'm here to welcome you home And clean the flesh from your bones You’re not alone Time will lose all you have begotten Bones remain when your names forgotten The living can’t conceive What empty eyes can see In the labyrinth of skulls When your days are done You may carry on In the labyrinth of skulls

about

This album is a collection of songs inspired by the Dungeon23 project in which TTRPG creators design a dungeon room per day in 2023. The idea is the brainchild of Mothership creator Sean McCoy. You can read more about it here seanmccoy.substack.com/p/dungeon23.

As a musician, the room a day thing doesn't really work for me but I was very inspired by the project and by the work that people started sharing, so I came up with my own version of the challenge. I will release a song every month of 2023, each song will be inspired by a different Dungeon23 project. I'll keep adding them here and by the end of the year I'll have a 12 song album. As I work on the album I'll release the songs as "pay what you want" but will probably change that once the whole thing is done. Check out the notes for each individual song to learn more about the process and the creator who inspired it.

I hope you come along for the ride and that you'll look into all the great projects coming from this awesome challenge.
